The HOPweek will take place from Monday August 21 until Friday August 25, 2017. The programme is subject to change. Locations and details of the programme will not be published on the webpage. After you have signed up for The HOPweek, you have to download the official HOPweek App, in which you will find details and practical information.
Before The HOPweek officially starts, all participants and guides have to register for The HOPweek. This is very important, since this is the place where you meet your guides and your fellow group members which you join for the rest of the week. Here, you also get wristband, which will give you entrance to every HOPweek activity. You also get your coupons, which will provide your food for the rest of the week.
You can find your group guides because they all have signs with your group number written on it. You can find your group number in the e-mail that you received in the weekend before The HOPweek.
IMPORTANT: do not lose your wristband or coupons. You have to pay if you lose them. You can buy new wristbands and coupons at our Coordination Team (Wijnhaven, Turfmarkt 99, room 216)

The Grand HOPening is the official opening of The HOPweek. Start your HOP journey right here. After you have met your fellow group members, sit down together in the beautiful church ‘Grote Kerk’. You can listen to several speakers here to start your HOPweek, your student life!

The HOP Into Your Future Festival gives you the best introduction to your new student life in the Hague. Several student associations, study associations and companies will present themselves and they will tell you what they can do for you as a student. Check the section ‘Student life in The Hague’ in the app for more information about the associations.

At 18:00 you can watch the movie ‘Nice People’ at the outdoor cinema, while enjoying a Domino’s pizza. You can pick up your Domino’s pizza with your coupon. Check the coupon for your shift.
Nice People: A group of young men who fled the war in Somalia have ended up in a rural town in Sweden where integration is tough. Something needs to be done. Local entrepreneur Patrik Andersson gets an idea: why not use sport as a bridge to get people closer to each other? The goal: to create the first ever Somali national team in bandy and make it to the World Championship in Siberia. This is a story about racism and fear, but it's also about bravery and doing something that hasn't been done before.

During this city tour you and your group will go into The Hague to get acquainted with all this city has to offer. The different routes come with several adventurous tasks and in the end you’ll have passed every spot you need to know to make it in The Hague.
For our Master students, we have organized a career event on Tuesday afternoon, where you can follow workshops about networking, …. Before the workshops, we have three talks from:… After the workshops, we will have a drink together, where you can also get a professional photo for your LinkedIn profile.
As a master student it is important to look beyond your studies. What does the job market need and what skills are important to gain? The Career Event you will visit during the week will prepare you. You will directly improve your chances by getting a professional photo on your LinkedIn, following workshops on your networking skills and working on your soft skills while communicating with your peers.
As first year’s Bachelor student, it can be very hard to get to know all useful tips & tricks for a succesful first year. This event introduces you to all kinds of skilss which will be handy fur your further career as a student.

What do the theater disciplines acting, singing and dancing have to do with verbal and non-verbal communication and presentation? The answer is simple: Everything. As with acting, singing and dance, in a presentation you give form to the concepts and ideas that you want to convey to your public. Concepts and aspects of the different disciplines such as space, dynamics, tempo, breath, posture and 'landing' your information form the basis of the course. Teacher: Scott Blick
o Honours College - Leadership in times of crisis:
Daily leadership is very different from leadership in times of a great crisis. What must be done when a public leader receives word of a terrorist attack or a natural disaster? Who is to blame when procedures are not going according to plan? Can we blame anyone at all? This workshop will introduce you to what it means to lead during a crisis. Test your nerve with an exciting case study.

Effectief schriftelijk communiceren is één van de belangrijkste en tegelijkertijd moeilijkste vaardigheden. Hoe stem je je boodschap af op je lezer? Hoe schrijf je begrijpelijk en wervend?
During the Museum Night you have the opportunity to watch a comedy performance by Edo Berger:
Edo Berger hails from Amsterdam. Edo eats everything and loves children. His favourite primary colours are red, yellow and blue.
Edo Berger won several Dutch comedy festivals before expanding to performing in English. He also does a weekly musical radio column and made a documentary about the comedian’s love for anecdotes about horrible comedy gigs, called Dictator of Comedy.
Besides knowing all cool spots and bars in The Hague, it is very important to get to know your course, the university buildings and your study association. During this programme, your guides will split up, so you all get a tour during the University Building Tour.
To start the day a small presentation is given at 09:45 by the International Student Advisers Jantien Delwel & Qing-Yi Fan. After the speech you will follow a programme organized by several programmes from the university.
IMPORTANT: your group will also split up, since you will all go to the course which you will join next year.

Serious Game: Terror on the High Seas
The Serious Game has been developed to provide a fun and engaging gateway to some of the key themes and concepts in the field of crisis and security management. All game scenarios are based on true events, real actors, and existing laws and policies. Players will work in teams, solving a number of puzzles with the ultimate goal of addressing a major crisis situation. Each game is followed by a semi-structured reflection session, when core themes and dilemmas are discussed.

Bring your swimsuit and towel to the Beach Day on Wednesday afternoon! After the faculty morning, you can relax on the beach in Scheveningen. There are loads of activities to do as well. You can play beachvolleyball, Lacrosse, … Afterwards, we will have dinner at Beachclub De Karavaan and the Beach Party will also take place here. Don’t forget to bring some fresh clothes for the party!

Escher in het Paleis (10:00 – 11:00)
Escher in Het Paleis is a permanent exhibition dedicated to the world-famous artist M.C. Escher. It is housed in the former Winter Palace of Queen Mother Emma of the Netherlands. The art of Escher instills a sense of bewilderment and wonder. His fantastical structures, which couldn’t possibly exist in the real world, are optical illusions that play with perspective. With over 150 prints you can always see his best known works and a changing selection of graphic work.
IMPORTANT: entrance is only possible from 10:00-10:10.
Museum Bredius (10:00-11:00 and 11:00-12:00)
One of The Hague best kept cultural secrets is the Bredius Museum. Not rightly so because the Museum houses a beautiful collection of 17th century painting among witch works of famous painters such as Rembrandt en Jan Steen. Furthermore the homely atmosphere in the stately patrician house on the Lange Vijverberg brings you right back in time. As a result, it seems that the owner of the collection, Dr. Abraham Bredius (1855 - 1945), has just left for a stroll. In short, come and let yourself be overwhelmed by this Hague's still unknown gem!

Panorama Mesdag (10:00-1040, 11:00-11:40)
If you want to know more about the history of The Hague, and if you want to see Mesdag’s paintings and his beautiful panorama of beach life in 1880, visit Panorama Mesdag. You get a guided tour (in groups of max 20 people each) with explanation about the paintings and panorama.

Haags Historisch Museum (X) Haags Historisch Museum is a museum situated at a beautiful spot, which offers you paintings of famous Dutch painters, and gives you a better perspective into the history of The Hague. You get a guided tour through the museum and a pubquiz about facts of The Hague.

The Gemeentemuseum Den Haag has a treasure trove of over 160,000 artworks. In these pages, we are working to provide increasing online access to the highlights of the collection. In order to show you the beautiful international organisations of The Hague, the center of government and the embassies of The Hague, every group gets to visit one of these beautiful sights. Get inspired and HOP into your future.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT FORGET TO BRING YOUR PASSPORT or ID card. Every organization has asked us to let you bring you passport, due to security issues. You cannot enter without a passport.
IMPORTANT: we have arranged a spot for every group. It is not possible to switch to another group, since we have already given a list of the participant group names.
IMPORTANT: we are very honored to visit these places. Please be respectful and polite, and dress properly. Moreover, think about your questions before asking them, because some embassies can feel attacked if you have a question about their policy. The embassy only tries to do its job.
Thursday night is the Association Night of the HOPweek!
Starting at 17:00, you will first have the opportunity to get to know some of the smaller student associations and some study associations you saw at the festival on Monday better. They will organize an activity at the Wijnhaven faculty. In the meantime, you can pick up dinner here with your coupon.
Thursday will give you the opportunity to really get to know the student and study associations of The Hague. Joining one can enhance your student life, you don’t want to miss the chance to broaden your horizons. These associations give you access to sports associations, student associations will provide you with relevant topics during your studies as well as events you can enjoy with your peers.
After a busy week, you won’t have to get up early on Friday morning. Stay in your pyjamas or put on your awesome onesie and come for the delicious brunch.
After a week of hard work, it is time for sports and relaxation. Are you a Harry Potter freak and up for playing Quidditch? Do you like other sports games, like football or Twister? Or do you just want to sit down and relax? Come join us, and they will see us rowling.
IMPORTANT: do not forget to bring your sun screen, because you can get a sunburn easily.
The last dinner of The HOPweek will be a BBQ. You will be able to grill your own (veggie) burgers for your whole group. Give your coupons to your guides so that they can pick up the food for you. (Hand in all your trash to get your dessert).
Sad but true, the HOPweek has almost come to an end. However, we won’t let you go before we have given you an awesome final party!
Important to know: Because we have participants who are not yet eligible to drink, it is only possible to order one drink at a time. Please remember that this is normally not the case.
