Programme HOPweek 2021

Dear future HOP 2021 Participants,

You probably want to know what the HOP week will look like! After all, the measures taken by the Dutch government against the spread of the coronavirus also have consequences for Leiden University and thus for your introduction period. Together with the university, the municipality, the study and student associations and many other parties, we have done our utmost to develop the best possible programme that should suit everyone’s need: this year we are offering a hybrid week which can be completed online if you are joining from home, and also a physical variation of HOP if you are able to come to The Hague. For more information on the current Covid measures and how HOPweek ensures the safety of its participants and volunteers, visit the HOPweek updates page

After a long wait, at the bottom of this page, we present the HOPweek 2021 programme! The HOP has been hard at work creating programmes for different scenarios, to ensure all new students have a great introduction time, no matter the Covid measures. We now present to you 3 different scenarios in which the introduction week can take place. HOPweek takes place 23-27 August 2021 in a hybrid format. We have several great days in-store, where you can get to know the associations, your fellow students, the city and student life.

What does the HOP look like this year?

  • Scenario 1: 4 days of physical programme + a simultaneous online programme
  • Scenario 2: 2 days of physical programme + a simultaneous online programme
  • Scenario 3: 1 day of physical programme + a simultaneous online programme

In all of these scenario’s, Monday the 23rd of August will be an online programme day. On this day you can meet your group and are welcomed to The Hague and Leiden University. We advise physical participants to be present in The Hague before the 23rd of August and take the current quarantine measures in mind. Depending on the measures in August, you will either have 4, 2 or 1 physical programme days. But we are remaining positive and creating a great programme either way. We hope to offer you as many physical days as possible.  In the 2-day scenario, participants are split up into 2 groups and each get 2 unique physical programme days. In the 1-day scenario, each participant gets 1 physical programme day. You will receive a confirmation when we can safely confirm the official format of the introduction week.

Your mentor group

. During the programme, you will join a group of fellow first-year students, your group will be guided by two mentors. These mentors will support you during both an online programme, as well as on location. We try our utmost best to create diverse mentor groups where you can meet your fellow students. Your mentors will have knowledge of your study programme and will be able to answer most of your questions. The main language spoken during the introduction week is English.
